What we repair

Kitchen extraction, make-up air and gas interlock systems aren't optional — they're the difference between a kitchen that can legally trade and one that can't. We cover the full picture, from canopy fans to certified interlock testing.

Canopy & extract systems

Commercial canopies, in-line fans, grease filtration and ductwork serving hotels, restaurants, gastropubs, schools and food production. Fan motor failures, belt and bearing replacement, control panel faults, grease filter and baffle issues — diagnosed and resolved on site wherever possible.

Make-up air (MUA) units

MUA units balancing kitchen extract with replacement supply air. Heating element and burner faults on gas-fired units, fan and motor issues, damper actuator failures, control linkage problems. Kitchen ventilation balance restored before EHO or insurer inspections.

Gas interlock systems

Gas interlock installation, fault diagnosis and annual testing under BS 6173 and Gas Safe requirements. Pressure sensor failures, solenoid valve issues, control board faults. Interlocks brought back into service with certification you can hand to your gas-safety inspector. Our guide explains how a commercial kitchen gas interlock works and why it's required.

Interlock testing & certification

Annual gas interlock testing with certificates valid for your gas safety records, EHO file and insurance documentation. Gas Safe registered for the full inspection. Service-agreement holders get interlock testing built into the planned-maintenance schedule.

DW172 compliance inspection

DW172-aligned inspection of canopy, ductwork and extract performance for kitchens needing audit-ready documentation. Airflow measurement, grease-deposit assessment, structural and access checks, written report suitable for EHO, insurer and CDM evidence.

Compliance failure remediation

If a gas safety inspection, insurance survey or EHO visit has flagged extraction or interlock compliance failures, we can quote for the remedial work — repair, partial upgrade or full replacement system through our installation arm. One contractor, full audit trail, kitchen back to compliance.

How we work

A non-compliant extract or interlock fault can shut a kitchen down. Here's what happens from the moment you call.

1

Same working-day attendance

Phone the office before 10am and an engineer is usually with you the same day. Service-agreement holders are dispatched first with a defined SLA. Weekend emergency cover available.

2

Gas Safe diagnosis & certification

Every engineer working on gas interlock systems is Gas Safe registered. Interlock testing, fault diagnosis and certification handled to BS 6173 and current Gas Safe requirements. Full paperwork issued for your gas-safety records and EHO file.

3

Repair, upgrade or replace — one contractor

Engineers carry common interlock components, sensors and motor parts on the van for first-visit fixes where possible. For larger remediation — partial upgrade or full new extract or interlock system — we quote through our installation arm. One audit trail, one point of contact.

Frequently asked questions

Kitchen extraction & gas interlock — your questions

How quickly can you get an engineer out to a gas interlock or extract fault?

If you call before 10am most working days, we can usually get an engineer to you the same day. Service-agreement holders are dispatched first with a defined SLA. Weekend emergency cover is available for service-agreement clients. Engineers are based in SE Kent and cover all of Kent.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered for interlock work?

Yes. Every engineer working on gas interlock systems is Gas Safe registered. We handle interlock installation, fault diagnosis, annual testing and certification under BS 6173 and current Gas Safe requirements, and issue full paperwork for your gas-safety records and EHO file.

How often does a gas interlock need testing?

Annually as a minimum, alongside the commercial gas appliance gas safety check. Many insurers and EHOs treat a current interlock test certificate as a baseline for trading. Service-agreement holders get interlock testing built into the annual visit so the certificate stays current without it becoming an extra job to chase.

What's DW172 and do we need to comply with it?

DW172 is the BESA specification for kitchen ventilation systems — the industry standard for canopy and ductwork design, installation and inspection. It's referenced by EHOs, insurers and CDM evidence packs. We carry out DW172-aligned inspection of canopy performance, airflow, grease deposit and structural condition, with a written report you can hand to whoever needs it.

Our gas inspection or EHO visit has flagged a compliance failure — can you sort it?

Yes. If a recent inspection has flagged interlock, extract or ventilation compliance issues, we can quote for the remedial work — repair, partial upgrade or a full replacement system through our installation arm. One contractor, one audit trail, kitchen back into compliance and trading.

Do you cover MUA (make-up air) units as well as the extract side?

Yes — both. Kitchen ventilation only works when extract and supply air are balanced, so we cover MUA units in the same scope. Burner and heating-element faults on gas-fired units, fan and motor failures, damper actuators and control linkage issues — all routine work.

What does a kitchen extraction or gas interlock call-out cost?

Standard call-out attendance is chargeable unless the work is covered by an existing service agreement. We're transparent about labour rates and parts costs before any work goes ahead. Service-agreement holders get pre-agreed rates, annual interlock testing built in, and predictable costs.

Can you put our extraction and interlock systems on a service agreement?

Yes — service agreements can be scoped to specific systems or to your full kitchen. For kitchens with gas interlock obligations, a dedicated agreement covering annual interlock testing, DW172 inspection, canopy and ductwork checks and priority dispatch makes commercial and compliance sense. Get in touch and we'll work out what fits.
